Canon announces A3000 IS and A3100 IS

Canon has introduced its PowerShot A3000 IS and A3100, both of which now top the A series budget compacts.

They are the first A series cameras that are built around Lithium Ion rechargeable batteries, rather than AA cells, resulting in about 230 shots per charge (standard tests). Both share the same 35-140mm equivalent (4x) image-stabilized zoom lens and 2.7″ LCD screen.

The A3100 offers a 12MP CCD sensor; the A3000 offers a 10MP  CCD sensor. The cameras only feature VGA movie mode, but are SDXC capable.
